授業目標

This aim of this course is to provide you with the opportunity to study English and improve your English skills in a short time while experiencing life overseas and learning more about British culture.

授業の概要

You will study English intensively at an English Language school. The course focuses on developing language and communication skills for a wide range of everyday situations. You will also be able to enjoy a social program that is designed to supplement your studies and give you the opportunity to activate the English learned in class. The social program will provide you with real-life situations to use English in, while making friends from around the world.

授業計画

The English Language Study Abroad Course consists of:
1. Four class sessions prior to overseas study. The aim is to i) provide information about the study abroad course and the related assignments; ii) provide practical information for travel and life overseas; iii) cultural awareness about the differences in values and norms: and iv) language learning strategies and how to deal with linguistic challenges.
2. Three weeks of Intensive English Language study (Details in the program syllabus)
3. One class session after returning: Presentation of assignment and program feedback (course evaluation questionnaire).

成績評価

To achieve a C grade or above, you need to participate in the overseas component of the course as well as the pre-departure classes. On return you need to do a presentation and submit a Study Abroad Report and Critical Incident Report. You are required to participate actively and willingly and attend over 75% of pre-departure classes and class sessions during the Study Abroad Course, and attend one class on your return.

Students participating in the ELSA Course must show a strong intention to improve their English language skills.
In addition to course work, students are advised to keep a journal (in English) in which to note their experiences and reflections. The final assignments and presentation will be based on the journal.
