授業時間外の学習(準備学習等について)

Students are expected to be well prepared for classes by completing any necessary homework tasks that have been assigned and review work completed in previous classes. It is also necessary for students to attend classes with the correct materials to participate within each class.

授業の概要

The class will combine a focus in the spring on preparation and writing of academic papers with a focus in the autumn term on presentations. Students will work on extending their fluency of written expression through activities centered on a topics-based syllabus. Critical thinking with a cross-cultural perspective will be fostered on a range of topical issues. In class activities will focus on elements of the English language that will be useful in broadening their scope and understanding of the written components. Skills acquired over the course of the semester will allow students to draft, edit and produce their own academic written piece, including how to reference sources of data and research using the APA style referencing system. Students will also acquire strategies and skills over the course to produce a presentational or interactional speaking task. Students will discover how to effectively design, produce and successfully use presentation visual support (posters/slides) that allows the audience to gather the main points of information, while being able to focus on the details provided by the speaker and the skills necessary to effectively engage an audience throughout a presentation and how to ask, receive and answer questions on topics of presentations.
