Required Materials: An English / Japanese dictionary. A notebook and a folder. A-4 size loose leaf paper.

Homework: Writing assignments must be handed in on time.
Mini Presentations: Students must prepare these presentations and present them in front of their peers.
Time should be spent reviewing previous class work. Also read ahead for the next lesson so that you can participate more.

授業の概要

In this course students will improve their academic reading, writing and presentation skills. Students will do individual, pair and group work activities. Reading activities such as skimming, scanning and predicting content will be looked at. Different types of writing forms will be researched, for example, descriptive organization, comparison-contrast organization and cause-and-effect organization. Presentation techniques will be described and practiced in the class. Class discussions will help students think more deeply about the topics and help them to improve their language ability.

Grades:
In class activities - 20%
1 Writing assignment - 20%
1 Presentation - 30%
1 Writing test - 30%
You will be evaluated on how well you achieve the targets set out for each of the above criteria which will be explained in class.
The minimum criteria for passing is 60%

You must participate in the class using English. Your participation is graded in every class.
Please arrive on time for class.
Students who miss more than three classes without a valid excuse will fail the class.
Students who fail to hand in assignments on time will lose marks.
