授業時間外の学習(準備学習等について)

Writing assignments focusing on giving oral presentations will be required. Typically the assignments can be completed within 20 to 30 minutes depending upon the student. Students will prepare for oral presentations. Each student’s main presentation will require more time and practice outside class. Depending upon the class, additional teamwork projects might be assigned.

授業の概要

This course will focus on enhancing students’ability to express themselves through writing and speaking with an emphasis on effective communication and presentations within academic and professional environments. The approach will involve an in-class focus on developing skills for professional-level writing and presentations. A variety of additional professional and business materials will be supplied to the students. The course will enable students to better utilize new and existing English skills to become more adept at communicating their thoughts, ideas, and opinions in academic and professional circumstances. The course will expand from the spring to enable students to prepare for and give professional-level presentations.

第1回 Handouts explaining the class, class requirements, and the syllabus will be given. If new students: teacher and student introductions, explanation about the book, and an anonymous questionnaire to determine students’ English goals and interests. 成績評価

To achieve a passing grade of C, a student must acquire 60 points according to the following criteria:

a. Active participation in class (attendance is a prerequisite to participation) 20~25%;
b. Essays & presentations (preparation in class and outside class) 50~65%;
c. Written and speaking assignments and possible class quizzes 25~30%.
