授業目標

Academic English IIIで学んだアカデミック・ライティングとプレゼンテーションの能力をさらに高め、聞いた内容について質問したり、議論したりすることができる双方向的なコミュニケーション力を身につけることを目的とします。

教科書

No textbook. Current Affairs prints handed out in class. The prints are the reference book for this course and must be brought to every lesson. This includes ALL the first semester printed handouts, especially those for Citing Sources in MLA Style.

参考書

English/Japanese Japanese/English dictionary that has contemporary British English terms.

授業時間外の学習(準備学習等について)

Study writing Academic English in MLA style. Be sure to have access to a computer to do your homework when given.

All students will be expected to prepare for and review the content and activities of each class, and complete any homework assignments given.

授業の概要

The focus is on the basic skills of reading, writing, and researching; all leading towards academic writing and giving academic presentations on current affairs. Students will computer type academic level articles on current affairs, then practice them orally as they learn and practice the basics of academic presentation.

成績評価

To achieve the required target you need grades in the following criteria:

Final grades will be calculated as:
1) Hand-in written reports and speech presentations in class 35%.
2) Final oral presentation test 35%.
3) Participation/Effort 15%.
4) Paper test on all hand-outs 15%
A maximum of 3 classes absent are allowed. Four absences mean a D grade.

備考(実務経験の活用を含む)

Ask any questions you have during class time, not afterwards. Occasionally we may be able to meet in room 212 for special advice, help or consulation.

Smart phones are only allowed to be used specifically if and when your professor says and only for the specific tasks he indicates. Their extraneous use will result in confiscation until the end of the lesson. Generally, keep them on "manner mode" or "off" at all times.
