授業目標

The aim of this course is to enable the students to learn (1) an advanced knowledge on the thermodynamics relating to the corrosion phenomena and (2) a basic knowledge on the kinetics of the corrosion process. (3) A rather practical knowledge about the corrosion and its control is also given.

The preparation and the review are important for understanding the lectures. The students should read the text and solve the problems before attending the class.

授業の概要

This course will focus on understanding the electrochemical theory of corrosion processes. Topics include the thermodynamic and the kinetics of corrosion as well as the stress corrosion cracking and the hydrogen embrittlement of steel and other metals.

授業計画

1. Introduction, 2-4. Electrochemical mechanisms, 5-9. Thermodynamics of corrosion, 10-14. Kinetics of corrosion, 15. Current topics on Corrosion Engineering

成績評価

The grade is evaluated by a term examination (50%) as well as a presentation at each class (50%). The C grade is given to the students who adequately master the items (1) to (3) specified above.
